So beautiful! Antique French cotton & silk handmade chemise. I think this piece was originally two separate pieces, a silk slip dress and a cotton petticoat skirt, that have been joined together as a dress. All hand stitched (see pics). Delicate silk upper bodice with darts to the waistline and sleeveless, round neck shape. The hem to the cotton skirt has the prettiest hand stitched Broderie Anglaise. There are no fastenings or openings on this one, so it can be tricky to get on/off, best to have someone help slip on over the head. This piece has clearly been taken up and let back down over the years, there are definite signs to the bodice and skirt hem (see pics) but this doesn’t really detract from the overall look of the dress. Two tiny holes in the silk to the right side of the waist darts, and the darts themselves are slightly pulled from wear over time (see pics). These could easily be stitched tighter again by a good sewist. Two very small rust spots to the back of the skirt, just above the broderie anglaise border (see pics), but in overall nice antique condition, with wear consistent with age. Silk bodice is fine fabric, that is semi sheer. Sized as a UK 6. Please check below measurement before purchasing.
